Training..GQ up next..

Its been a while since my major step forward at NAGA in the Purple belt division. I remember my first time competing at blue, it was a big deal for me and i think i treated to much like it was a big deal. With the purple division I didnt feel anything, just competing and sort of felt that as ‘coming of age’ sort of thing. Im learning internally that jiujitsu is jiujitsu everywhere you go. Your either proficient at jitsu or its something else. I think my fight versus Top Black Belt Abmar Barbosa, really prepared me for all things coming my way. I learned so much from that match its amazing!! Im looking forward to more competitions against high level opposition.

Breaking training records: This phrase comes from an interview Marcelo Garcia, where before every competition he tries to break his last training time from the previous tournameent. So with that recently I started teaching a class at my academy at 1pm and it runs until a while. So its an been a lot of extra good training going down in that class. With school this class was a must for me to run so that i could still train the kind of hours I want to before the Mundials and Pan-Ams . These classes are rough <3 I love doing it. Its a drilling class, with a sparring from situational positions, and on Mondays i through in exercises to make sure we are wiped out before the sparring. Right now i have only about 5 to 6 total people in there but I think it will pick up even more.

Other then training, school in general has been a drag. I mean its been interesting stuff but i dont know something about my training isn’t satisfying me at the moment. I feel I bit even lazy, I dont think I have been hitting cardio the way I should be. This week should be a different story as I am going to be getting the help I need in the help i need to feel more at ease about everything. I just think im slipping a bit, being almost to casual about things. Don’t get me wrong, training has been wonderful as of late, but something is off.

In any case, Grappler’s Quest is up next, and I will definitely be jumping into that before the Pan-Ams, no doubt.

School thanks for making my journey that much more interesting. I truly

Im a leader but i follow my team..

Iffy news, the personal trainer, Keith Jeffries who i thought i was going to have, has had real big injury, and i wont be able to get his services, which is a real bummer. Im more concerned with his health, and having him back as a training partner. The kid is also awesome at jiu-jitsu and is a very talented purple belt. He reminds me of The Legendary Roleta with the guard he play. I wish him a speedy recovery. I’ve never had a personal trainer before but its bad news for me because i was looking forward to what he was going to put me through. My training has always been as follows:

  • Monday - Hard conditioning
  • Tuesday - Focus on strength and light cardio
  • Wednesday - OFF
  • Thursday - Hard conditioning + Strength
  • Friday - Strength
  • Saturday - Light cardio
  • Sunday - OFF
I’ve had great success with this kind of program in the past. This kind of scedule is the one Martin Rooney (Training For Warriors) would employ for his clients and in his book which i own. And of course i do all my jiu-jitsu and judo training and never miss a bjj class during the week. So my body is starting to feel like its being over trained. Maybe im over working myself a bit but i cant help but imagine someone who might face off against at future tournaments is out working me. I dont like that feeling so i push through. David Goggins once said “when you think your done, your only at 40 percent of what your body is capable of doing.”
Powerful words.

Current weight 214.1

As far as my weight goes, its not a problem for me to lose any kind of weight, but Ive been thinking about what weight category Ive been wanting to fight at for the Pan-Ams, and the upcoming NAGA tournaments. Since NAGA has such a large heavyweight division (meaning 200lbs to 224.5 weight class) i think id like to fight in the heavyweight division because I think I’d fight more. But who knows cruiser weight is 199.9lbs and below and i figure well in that weight. Actually im leaning towards that weight class for the Pan-Am’s 194lbs weight class. Im still figuring it all out. I just want to make sure for the NAGA New England’s my school has someone in each weight class represented.
Id like to get a team trophy and the banner that NAGA will be giving to the 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Tonight at class..
Was unusually light in terms of participants. Ive been noticing a growing trend, when the sparring sessions are tough the days prior, not as many people show. Which was fine for me, i went hard the last couple of nights (Monday and Tuesday), so i went super light tonight, and tried drilling specific things during the sparring session. It was open mat tonight because of the lack of participants.

After class went out to eat with a couple of the guys from my school…MMM Chinese =D

Keep training guys.
