Been training with these guys on Sundays, and its been really great. Today I took this picture, and in this particular practice session, we did King of the Guard for 40 minutes straight. After that, I got pitted, all of these guys mounted me, and I had to escape back to guard or reverse the position. It was really tough, like reaaaallly tough. Actually, all these guys except the last 5 guys; the...

Ary Farias on mistake free bjj
What do you feel will be different at this rank as opposed to the other belts? I feel the difference is in the professionalism at black belt. Everyone is a professional, there’s no one in there piddling around, they always have something up their sleeves. You can’t make mistakes at black belt, that would be costly. It’s not like the other belts, where you can make a mistake and still fix...

Life and BJJ
This weekend brought out a side of me I had not seen of my self since my deployment to Iraq in 2005-2006. I was very upset with someone this weekend. I am usually very happy go lucky, ” im going to be a world champ if it breaks me” kind of attitude, I feel like I am always on top of the world thanks to the glory and greatness that is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I allowed someone to influence...

The three attitudes
Do I really need to introduce the man, Cael Sanderson? This is from Cael’s blog. I suffer from these sometimes, and someone like Cael bringing light to it is awesome, maybe these words from a top competitor can assist you as it does me in your journey, to absolute awesomeness in bjj or in other sports. When I read this I felt like..”Ouch”…And I had to re evaluate...

I have already heard that his [trainer say that his fighter] trains almost twice as hard as me. I don’t really care about comments like that. Our training will show on the day of the fight. I do my job the way it has to be done, as planned, and on the day of the fight we’ll see who’s in the best possible condition. I expect to win and I train hard enough to achieve that. I win...

BJJ was cancelled because of snow. Continuing to work hard inspite of the snow, making it into a fun workout. Don’t let the weather stop you in your tracks. keep training hard, because for sure your enemy/future opponent is training nicely and comfortably in better conditions.
